Green and blue

When Hi Fly recently took delivery of an ex-Singapore Airlines A380, it was an excellent opportunity to use the aircraft as a billboard to highlight the Save the Coral Reefs environmental campaign

Paolo Mirpuri is a Portuguese businessman and philanthropist. When his airline Hi Fly recently took delivery of an ex-Singapore Airlines Airbus A380, it was an excellent opportunity to use the aircraft as a billboard to highlight the Save the Coral Reefs environmental campaign being carried out by the Mirpuri Foundation. The light blue port fuselage represents a pristine ocean with healthy marine life and carries the message ‘Not Too Late To Save Coral Reefs’, while the dark blue starboard side shows a destroyed environment and the message ‘Coral Reefs Gone By 2050’.

The paint system was supplied by AkzoNobel and, in keeping with the environmental theme, started with Aerodur HS 2118 Chromate-Free Primer. This was followed by Aviox Finish 77702, a three-component durable high gloss urethane finish as the topcoat.

The design incorporated 19 colours, each of which had its own Pantone reference number. AkzoNobel’s colour development laboratory then matched the paint to the Pantones.

The aircraft was painted by Aviation Cosmetics Malta before making its debut appearance at the Farnborough International Airshow in July.

It is the second time that AkzoNobel products have been used on a Mirpuri Foundation aircraft. In late 2017, an Airbus A330-200 was used for the Turn the Tide on Plastic campaign.
